I agree that emotional approaches can have upsides. But they can also have downsides. For instance, Paul Bloom has a book-length discussion (which covers EA) on the downsides of empathy. Likewise, it’s well-known that moral outrage can have severely negative consequences. I think this post would have benefitted from more discussion on the potential costs of a more emotional strategy, since it seems a bit one-sided to only discuss the potential benefits. (And the comments to this post seem pretty one-sided as well.)
