1) Data point: Until reading these comments just now, I’d seen that some people had spreadsheets/webpages like these, and I think I vaguely felt that that was good, but I also think I simply hadn’t even considered for a second the idea of doing so myself. (I’d considered writing blogposts about specific or annual planned or prior donations, where I also discussed some of my rationale, but hadn’t considered a comprehensive, public spreadsheet/webpage.)
I’m now very likely to do this, as a result of these comments.
2) Do you still plan to make a post collecting these lists?
3) Do you think it would be possible and/or good for there to just be a button on the EA Pledge dashboard for people to opt into making their reported donations from there publicly visible? This may increase the number of people who do this, as it’d be easier and might seem a bit closer to “sort-of a default” than “strange thing these 3 people somewhere have done”. I guess one downside would be that, if that button was displayed prominently, it could make the dashboard as a whole seem “weird”.
EAs often post records of where they donated, sometimes with their reasoning attached. That’s great, but it would be better if people posted before they donated, were explicit about whether they wanted feedback, and told others if their writing persuaded us to donate differently. In general, EAs should be vastly more interactive about their donation decision-making process.
Yes, I do plan to do this at some point—in fact, I’ve added it as something to do this week thanks to your comment, thanks for the push.
That’s an interesting idea. I’ll pass it along to CEA’s tech team, though I’d guess it wouldn’t be something that would happen soon (no guaranteed demand, unlikely to increase people’s use of the platform, some risk that people accidentally expose sensitive information).
I’m a fan of Claire’s suggestion. Not likely to do it myself, because my reasons for donating are pretty quirky and difficult to explain, but I’ve liked all the posts of this kind that I’ve seen from others on the Forum.

4) Somewhat separately, I like Claire Zabel’s statement that:
(I tried to contribute to this norm with this recent post.)
Do you have any thoughts on how that spreadsheet/webpage approach (or a post about it) could also contribute to or tie in with that norm?
(A fair response to 3 and 4 could be “Hey Michael, why don’t you spend at least 2 minutes of your own damn time thinking about it?” :D)
Wonderful!
