“There is nothing worse than duplicated/wasted efforts”—Definitely agree (at least in a sentimental rather than literal sense)
I know little to nothing about the legal-biosecurity nexus, and so I don’t know how interconnected or nuanced the topics tend to be. However, given my interests in improving research coordination, I’m curious whether people think shared mind maps and/or literature diagrams (e.g., a lite version of what I describe/illustrate here: https://forum.effectivealtruism.org/posts/s33LLoR6vbwiyRpTm/epistemaps-for-ai-debates-or-for-other-issues ) may be an effective way to share research topics/ideas? If the topics are not highly interconnected or nuanced (mainly as in, “within a given topic there many individual issues/questions which each warrant their own study”), then I would imagine that bullet pointing is much more efficient than such concept maps, but if they are I’d be interested to explore the idea further!
(I do recognize there would be “initialization/buy-in” costs since many people are not as familiar with such collaboration methods as they are with bullet points and comment threads, but if the topic were deemed both important and complicated enough it seems like the benefits could offset such costs)
