Tl;dr: After four years, I’m stepping down as ED of Hive to found a new organization in the movement. Hive is hiring its next Executive Director. Applications close August 9. Apply here or attend our webinar on July 30 to learn more.
Why I’m stepping down
This was not an easy decision. I love this team and this job and have greatly enjoyed founding and leading Hive over the last 4 years. Hive is in the strongest position it has ever been. That is exactly why now is the right time.
As funding flows into the farmed animal movement, one of our biggest bottlenecks is founders: people willing to start the organizations the movement needs next. After some research and reflection, I realised that my comparative advantage lies in zero-to-one work. I have done it with Hive, and I think the highest-impact use of my next few years is to do it again rather than to keep scaling something that no longer needs a founder at the helm. I’m exploring what that new organization will be, and I’ll share more here once it takes shape.
I’m not leaving Hive behind. I’ll stay until the end of the year to complete the hiring round and do a proper handover. I’ll also remain on the board, and I’m running this search personally because I care deeply about who takes it forward.
The Hive team and volunteers at the AVA summit this year
Why this role matters
Hive is a global community of 5,000+ farmed animal advocates across 100+ countries. We connect advocates to each other and to impactful opportunities through our Slack community, newsletter, events, resources, and strategically facilitated connections. With our dedicated small team and volunteers, we provide personalised support at scale to help any advocate who wants to have a greater impact for farmed animals.
Since our founding, we have helped over 300 people find impactful roles in the movement, including starting new impactful organisations (e.g. Sentient Futures). You can read more about our impact here.
In the first half of 2026 alone, we achieved 90+ High Impact Outcomes (the main way we measure our impact), as many as we have in any single previous year. As the movement grows, the connective tissue between organizations, funders, and talent becomes more valuable. Hive sits at the center of that, and the next ED will steward the community and the organisation to serve the growing movement most efficiently.
We are especially excited about Hive’s growing role in cultivating and connecting talent in neglected regions, as well as surfacing new ideas and projects that can effectively absorb new funding.
You would inherit a healthy organization: a strong team and culture, ongoing funding renewals and clear momentum. This is a rare setup: the upside of leading something established, with plenty of room left to shape its direction.

About the role
The full job description, including logistics, is here. In brief, the ED is responsible for strategy, fundraising, team leadership, and external representation of Hive. It is a fully remote role with occasional international travel.
We have written an honest FAQ about the role, including the harder parts. We are also hosting a webinar on July 30 to answer any questions you may have.
The application takes around 30-60 minutes: basic details plus three short written questions.
Who should apply
You might be a strong fit if you have led teams or organizations before, have deep familiarity with farmed animal advocacy, and are excited by community and movement infrastructure rather than direct campaigning. The key skills we are looking for are fundraising, strategy, impact-orientation and people management/leadership. We encourage people who do not tick every box to apply, and we welcome candidates from all geographies and backgrounds.
