Love this Evan, really useful post! Two quick additions from me:
On Tip #4 Start Things—I came from a career in government and hadn’t founded anything before applying or worked at a startup, so as with all these tips—don’t let that stop you applying but I definitely agree starting things is super valuable experience.
Also I was applying to various EA / social impact roles for about a year on and off before getting accepted to AIM. If you’re mid career-switch like I was, I’d also flag High Impact Professionals as a helpful program and depending on how EA your background already is, I think it’s worth demonstrating some value alignment. I don’t know how much it helped my application, but I volunteered at an EAG and completed an ‘intro to EA’ course—useful experiences regardless, but also good signals which seems to count for something!
