Has anyone inquired if primitive segregated communities could function as a (low-cost) kind of “ark”—a hedge for our species, in secluded environment protected from some global catastrophes?.
My guess is that they would probably survive pandemics, or a “simple” collapse of civilization. But they would be quite fragile to environmental changes; perhaps there could be a way to make them more resilient?
