Inspired by Mitchell Laughlin’s donation swap post.

I’m a Canadian taxpayer looking to donate approximately CAD $7,000 (roughly USD $5,000) this year to the Machine Intelligence Research Institute (MIRI), which is not tax-deductible in Canada.

I’m looking for someone in a jurisdiction where MIRI donations are tax-deductible who plans to donate a few thousand dollars to a charity that is tax-deductible in Canada. We each donate to the other’s preferred charity — same total giving, but we both get the tax benefit.

• United States — directly via MIRI’s 501(c)(3) status

• Netherlands — MIRI has ANBI status (RSIN 823958644)

How it works

1. You tell me which RC Forward charity you’d like me to donate to.

2. I donate to your chosen charity through RC Forward (getting my Canadian tax receipt).

3. You donate the equivalent amount to MIRI (getting your local tax deduction).

4. We both give the same total but save on taxes — or redirect the savings into more giving.
