Thanks Jordan and Pradyu for this very thorough overview! Also still digesting much of the content, but wanted to note that we (Oxford China Policy Lab) are in the process of drafting a research agenda on intersectional risks between US-China GPC and AI development/governance (project supported by BERI). We will likely expand this work into a longtermist research agenda focused more exclusively on other risks related to US-China GPC and hope to hire a research assistant for this when the time comes. In the meantime, we’d love to be in touch with anyone else focusing on these issues. Cheers!
I’m also very interested in this topic; I taught for Chinese University of Hong Kong- Shenzhen (CUHK-SZ) for a year, including some EA content in my decision-making and evolutionary psychology classes.
I agree with Jordan Schneider that US, UK, and Euro researchers—especially those considering global catastrophic risks—need to develop a much more accurate, up-to-date, and sophisticated view of China.
And of course, one good way to do that is to listen to more of Jordan’s excellent China Talk podcasts!
