Do you also avoid most of the cost of the operation? E.g. there was a fee to sign up (you said you “pay to sign up for the operation”), but then you’d pay much more later, and you’ve now avoided that extra cost. Or you paid for the operation upfront but then get most of it reimbursed.
Otherwise, if you’ve already mostly paid and can’t get your money back, then I’d think you’d just go through with the pregnancy and operation. Unless, you now think it’s worse to have a child than not with your current level of wealth, which is much lower because of the cost of the operation.
