A key difference also surrounds which risks to care about more
all global catastrophic risks or only likely existential ones
and what to do about them
focus on preventing them/reducing their suffering and deaths…
… or make them survivable by at least a small contingent to repopulate the world/universe.
If I don’t have a total population utilitarian view (which seems to me like the main crux belief of longtermism) I may not care as much about the extinction part of the risks.
