The quality of public discourse worldwide has degraded so badly, with casual name-calling using highly charged labels, that many of these types of accusations are open to question upon examination.
That is definitely my reaction to any story with “Far-Right” in the headline.
Just a heads up, this type of of comment—made after a major mistake—can be considered by many as insensitive and victim blaming.
It could be read to infer that the “person” who prompted the mistake, was actually the “person” that came to call attention to the mistake . And if that person was less vocal next time, less mistakes would be made.
I don’t understand. Who is the victim that I am blaming here? I was trying to support FLI by pointing out that, in my experience, when I hear an organisation described as “far-right”, that tells me very little except that it is probably not openly and explicitly Marxist. Perhaps Nya Dagbladet is one of the rare exceptions who actually deserve the label—I don’t know, I never heard of them before this controversy. But I definitely sympathise with FLI’s not immediately giving 100% credence to the accusations.
I mean victim blaming in a sort of conceptual way. I guess the “victims” in this case would be potential targets of the far-right, who would correctly describe Nya DagBladet as far-right.
They might be disappointed if they are told they actually caused this problem, because the term is used to often.
This might be particular upsetting, if someone has been the target of harassment or violence from someone on the far-right.
