I probably classify as ‘talent,’ since I’ve been repeatedly shortlisted to EA organizations. I’m glad that superior applicants applied and got the jobs! It’s been a shame for me personally, though, because a work environment like that would have been ideal for overcoming my longstanding depression.
Ordinarily, I’d just say ‘that’s life,’ but it seems worthwhile to point out the value of the shared ethos, including EA’s interest in personal productivity, etc. I’m sure that I’d be achieving exponentially greater benefits for the world after a short time in such a working environment, but it’s not easy to find. Maybe someone out there has ideas for how to make it more available!
