Position summary
ACE is accepting applications for new members to our Board of Directors. While not involved in daily operations, the Board is responsible for governance and strategic oversight.
Board members ensure that the organization adheres to its strategic direction and approved goals. The Board monitors policies, evaluates outcomes, and oversees risk management to support organizational effectiveness.
Key areas of responsibility
Attend and prepare for bi-monthly Board meetings to discuss strategic issues and governance matters.
Take an active interest in the development of ACE, contributing ideas and expertise.
Ensure effective organizational planning and participate in strategic planning.
Plan to remain an active board member for a three-year term.
Active participation as a board officer and/or on a committee (for example, finance, recruitment, governance, research, and Executive Director evaluation).
Qualifications/Skills
Required Qualifications/Skills
Experience in animal advocacy, including a genuine concern for animal well-being
Familiarity with the effective altruism movement
A team player who contributes to positive and productive discussions
Ability to devote approximately 10 hours per month to serve as an officer or committee member; prepare for and attend board meetings; and complete other board-related duties
Strategic thinker with innovative ideas
Focus on accountability for the achievement of short- and long-term strategic and organizational goals
Familiarity with animal advocacy in a context outside the U.S. and Western Europe
