I’m aware that Oxfam’s programs are also currently decided by “somebody sitting in a comfortable office somewhere [who] has done some calculations”, and I object to this as well while recognising that it may be inevitable given how the world works. My argument is that EA is no better than this current situation in principle, and may be worse than this *in practice* given that it could lead to the complete abandonment of entire countries.
