One point of view I haven’t seen represented so much here is that it can simultaneously be true that publically allying yourself with the community is good for the community, and yet overall not the right call. I’d like e.g. politicians to be able to take our good ideas and implement them without giving anything back, if that’s the best way to get those ideas done. (That said, I’d like them to read this post and weigh up the costs and benefits, and particularly consider the points about transparency and ensure they aren’t being outright deceitful about their links to the movement.)
