Highly neglected animals: insects, wild animals, shrimp, fish, etc, or
AI and animals: AI alignment and governance for animal welfare, strategic actions considering transformative AI, AI for wild animals, etc.
Tech for animals: welfare tech, precision welfare tech, breeding for welfare, etc.
I think one of the most oddly neglected animal welfare issues is popularization of caged broiler systems in China (the transformation is almost complete there, 93% of white feathered broilers in China are raised in cages), India, Africa, SEA. I think there are two kinds of work that could be done at this stage:
Research into the welfare footprint of caged broiler systems, in comparison to typical barn systems;
Research into market trends, stakeholder mapping, incentive structures, etc, and draw strategic conclusions from them. I have a not-so-organized version of this, PM me if you are interested.
(not suggesting it’s the most important nor most neglected, it’s just odd that this is so neglected given the movement’s track record and capacity in cage-free egg campaigns)
Thank you for the post!
