RFP for Charity Evaluations and Recommendations Feasibility Study

[Animal Charity Evaluators]

ACE is seeking a qualified independent consultant to conduct a feasibility study for our Charity Evaluations and Recommendations program. We are looking for a partner who is experienced with planning and conducting a feasibility study (or similar work), is familiar with the animal advocacy movement, (ideally) the effective altruism movement and meta-fundraising. The plan should a) assess our current approach to charity evaluations and recommendations alongside viable alternative approaches, and b) propose a potential new approach for our charity evaluation and recommendation program aimed at maximizing our meta-fundraising efforts and increasing the collective impact of the effective animal advocacy movement.

Thanks for sharing! I shared it on Ambitious Impact’s Slack too. You may also want to email the people who expressed interest in contracting for Rethink Priorities’ animal welfare department. I am sure they would be happy to share their emails.

I think it would be better for you to recommend charities more like GiveWell does. Instead of having a process where you screen lots of charities, and review many in depth, you could simply recommend the ones (analogous to GiveWell’s top charities) which have consistently received your movement grants, and whose marginal cost-effectiveness is expected to remain similar for the amount of additional funds caused by your recommendation. If you were to do this, I believe you should have more detailed write-ups of at least your largest movement grants.

I would be happy to review the output of this project for free before or after it is published. I might apply myself too.
