I think offsets are not a satisfactory solution the problem of balancing resource spending on charitable vs. personal ends since they don’t reflect the correct considerations. If you admit X leads to mental breakdowns then you should admit X is ruled out by purely consequentialist reasoning, without the need to bring in extra rules such as offsetting.
