This book discussed how the Future of humanity can be protected from the babarious act of man to safeguard the Future. Many Centuries ago life was Fair and simple due to low knowledge of Science and technology, But the advancement in science and technology Have make human vulnerable to high risks of extinction In centuries to come if necessary regulations and risks management are not put in place. Therefore, it is very important to make the right decision to safeguard humanity.
Toby Ord argue that humans are standing between a dangerous edge and a great Future in the next coming Century. Man intelligence discovery have lead to Quest For power and control which have creat high risks that can threat humanity existence. A typical example is Boko Haram terrorist who want to possess power and gain economic control of regions by unleashing terror on citizen resulting in killing and displacing of thousands of citizens who hey feel they do not conformed with their ideology. But when those intelligent discoveries are been utilized rightly it will improved our existence and the Future to come. Furthermore, Man is in possession of dangerous weapons that can destroy humanity. Weapons such as nuclear bombs, missiles which can be lunch across continent capable of causing mass destruction, Bioweapons and pandemics which are produce from laboratories and factories which have creat pains and hardship on our world. Thus, there must be strick regulation to prevent the production of such weapons to reduce existential risks to human life and we must contribute our own quota in managing and Safeguarding our future to come.
Steps in Safeguarding existential Risks is by landscaping the risks. Landscaping the risk involved exploring each risk in detail to determine the magnitude of impact on humanity. Steve Pinker examines risk based on natural and anthropogenic risk in which he designates numbers to compare and assess risk. Existential catastrophes via total anthropogenic risk within anext 100 years is approximately 1 in 6 to occur. Pinker further groups risk into 5 high risks which include nuclear war, climate change, environmental damage, engineered Pandemics and unallied AI, the last two is estimated as high risk to humanity. We must respond to the escalating risk with substantial effort to reduce those risks by fighting them using the following steps: Prevention,Response and Resilience.
