I think leftists are primarily concerned with oppression, exploitation, hierarchy and capitalism as root causes. That seems to basically be what it means to be a leftist. Poverty and environmental destruction are the result of capitalist greed and exploitation. Factory farming is the result of speciesist oppression and capitalism.

Oppression, exploitation, hierarchy and capitalism are also seen as causes of many of the worst ills in the world, perhaps even most of them.
