I wouldn’t use the word “scandal”. There is no scandal here, or at least I don’t see anything in the Trump attacks that suggests the accusation of a scandal.
But it may be more serious than the FTX situation.
Yeah I largely agree but I don’t think the word “scandal” is appropriate.
I also think the EA ideas are at least familiar to a larger share of the US population — people in big cities who went to college etc. And maybe even utilitarianism would have some traction as a “sensible way of considering what is good or bad.”
Not sure openness to “alternative lifestyles” is core to EA — but I guess irs a fellow traveler for many/most active EAs?

David—to many people, almost every aspect of EA is intrinsically scandalous:
-- the utilitarianism, consequentialism, sentientism
-- the globalism, open borders rhetoric, anti-nationalism
-- the openness to alternative lifestyles and relationship styles
-- etc
Within EA, these all seem perfectly normal. Outside the EA bubble, to a typical suburban family in Arizona or Ohio, they’re all scandalously bizarre.
