A paperclip maximiser could have consciousness, that doesn’t have to mean we care too much about it or are willing to sacrifice our lives to ensure its survival.
But why not? How do we justify that?
Basically I think humans just care about anything that looks similar to human beings. (Which makes sense evolutionarily.)
