Seth will be discussing a variety of issues on in the field of AI governance, which is Global Catastrophic Risk Initiative’s primary focus at the moment. Seth will discuss the variety of future AI scenarios, their various governance implications, work that can be done now to improve future AI outcomes, the significance of near-term AI, including the relation between near-term and long-term AI, and AI ethics, including ethics related to animal welfare and moral circle expansion.

Seth Baum is the Executive Director of Global Catastrophic Risk Initiative. The Global Catastrophic Risk Institute (GCRI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank that works on the risk of events that could significantly harm or even destroy human civilization at the global scale. Seth Baum leads GCRI’s planning and management and contributes to GCRI’s research. He is also a Research Affiliate of the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk at the University of Cambridge.
