Yes/No debate – a discussion format to better understand your disagreement

Most debates follow an “I-talk-you-talk” format where every side fills their talking time with as many as possible arguments for their case, garnished with some well-crafted rhetoric until the opponent gets some airtime for doing the same. The problem with this framework: People mostly bring up the arguments that convinced _them_, instead of addressing the points that the _other side is not (yet) convinced about.

The Yes/No debate changes that: Like at the “20 questions” game, you may only ask Yes/No questions. Participants are forced to address (and answer!) the crucial points of their disagreement and find their double-cruxes. The debates can be both time-saving and informative.

Our workshop will glimpse into experiences from debates previous offline & online, and we will run our own ones in pairs.

Hint: You may already think about topics that you’d like to discuss.
