There’s one thing that I maybe did not stress enough is that academic labs usually don’t rely on a single funding for a project, they often have some basal amount from the university, or from other projects. $100k does not cover everything, nor does it assures that we will have enough evidence at the end to have high confidence, but it’s a fair amount that a single lab could ask to work on one criterion and significantly improve our knowledge and confidence on it. PS: It’s also a very US-centered value, this amount would be more valuable for research labs in many other countries.
