It’s cool to see the members of the tantric retreat were open to learning from EA—are there any learnings you think this community in turn offers to EA?
I see a lot of value in some of the practices, skills when it come to being attuned to emotions and mind states, and communication norms that allow issues to be brought up and handled in meetings.
This avoids failure modes like resentment building up over time, or unacknowledged resentment/tiredness/stress affecting the outcomes of meetings and interactions.
I have a substack where I write about a lot of different topics, including presenting some ideas I believe can be helpful to EA/lw audiences. honestliving.substack.com.
Right now I’m doing a piece on breathwork, as a tool for rapid stress decrease, alertness increase, and “resetting” thinking patterns and state of mind. I have talked to some eas who get stuck in rabbit holes/sub-branches of a problem, and find themselves unstuck the next morning, with sleep “resetting” some unacknowledged assumptions. Breathwork do the same for me, but quicker. Picking it up and becoming used takes max 20min x a week, with low risk if handled with care.
This is super interesting and rhymes a bit with my own efforts to connect the EA community with another one that also has overlap in values but a distinct culture (harm reduction). I took a lot from another earlier post on this topic as well: https://forum.effectivealtruism.org/posts/8Qdc5mPyrfjttLCZn/learning-from-non-eas-who-seek-to-do-good
