Beautifully explained. I see two possible directions for further development:
Relativity and quantum mechanics suggest that physical reality is fundamentally different from any intuitive model we can construct. Does this challenge any of the article’s assumptions on the relation between reality and philosophy? Spoiler alert: I don’t think so, but there are a couple of issues worth addressing.
I agree that morality involves understanding consequences and acting to produce beneficial outcomes. The open question remains: to what extent is “beneficial” subjective versus objective?
Good to know you liked it. Thanks. 1. Yeah, fundamentally “intuition” is something that itself needs thoughts and considerations. Where a strong segment can be from Phenomenological POV to talk about these stuff. The human-centric approach we have is often times a hinderance to unraveling ideas that can be truly revolutionary. Same goes here. 2. Well as it’s for morality, that is a combination of both subjectivity and objectivity.
This explains both the universality and the variability of moral systems: universal because all reflect underlying causal realities, variable because different cultural and environmental contexts emphasize different aspects of those realities.
Similar would apply for beneficial as well. Subjectivity assisted Objectively beneficial. But surely it’d need more consideration and discussion.
