Great piece David! I’m not a physicist but it certainly seems that if it is technically feasible to send seed probes that exit our light cone, it would be good to do to (a) reduce extinction risk to near 0 and (b) have a much bigger future. I guess it would make sense, in State 2, to at least have some period of refletion to figure out what life to put on the probes. Pig’s paradise is an interesting thought experiment, but I would also hope that we can do better than that.
