One thing to add reg. the self-fulfilling prophecies could be how much each person’s overall ability to take risks in the future (which depending on the career can be pretty crucial for impact) is affected, e.g. if the relationship ends for whatever reason, is the person whose career “was neglected” still in a good place to take the same career risks as within the relationship?

Yeah, I think that’s a good point.
I expect there are things other than ability to take risks that it’s worth tracking too—like skill acquisition, demonstrable achievements...
