It’s interesting, even as a vegan I do not tend to weight insects very high at all, and often find myself swiping at flies in anger. One vegan I know (not an EA) even went as far as to say that she hates insects and wants to kill them all, they are nothing compared to animals. Now that I think about it, I see this as not being so different from a human who only cares about humans and not other animals, it’s just different levels of the same scale.

It’s easier to care about a butterfly than a cockroach, even though both have similar moral value (or the cockroach might matter a bit more, due to its cognitive sophistication relative to other insects).
