Coefficient Giving is scaling its giving significantly, both this year and into the future.
To support that growth, we’re hiring Research Fellows and Strategy Fellows to join our Cause Prioritization team. These roles will help prioritize and launch new $100 million+ Global Health and Wellbeing (GHW) funds, design the systems we use to evaluate our impact, and conduct research to inform our grantmaking approach.
We’re hiring across three sub-teams: new programs, incubation (exploratory grants), and internal evaluation. More information on each sub-team is in the job description, but all three roles involve desk research, cost-effectiveness analysis, interviewing subject matter experts, collaborating with potential grantees, and synthesizing written recommendations for senior leadership. More on our general approach to cause prioritization is here.
We’re looking for people with 3+ years of relevant professional experience (or academic equivalent) who are comfortable working across a range of topics. The qualities we’re most looking for include comfort performing back-of-the-envelope calculations in domains with sparse data, strong written communication and reasoning transparency, good epistemic judgment, and flexibility—willingness and ability to shift between topics and do the work that’s most important.
Research Fellows typically have a master’s or PhD in a quantitative discipline related to social science or public health, and tend to focus more on in-depth evidence reviews and academic literature synthesis. Strategy Fellows typically have a background in consulting, policy, or global health implementation, and tend to focus on grantmaking and faster, more assumptions-driven analysis. That said, we’re open to a wide range of experiences.
How to apply
If you’re interested in one of these roles, you can submit a formal application and receive full consideration.
People often ask me how they can stand out in our hiring processes. I don’t have a magical formula, but a few things worth knowing:
Our process is designed to be as objective as possible, and we carefully evaluate each application on its own merit. Lots of people (myself included!) get hired at cG by merely applying via our Careers page, and you don’t need to get on a call with a member of the Cause Prioritization or recruiting team to catch our attention.
We’re looking for strong quantitative skills in this role. If you’re uncertain of your fit for that, you can skip to the brief assignment in the application and see how comfortable you feel with it before completing the rest of the application.
Please don’t use LLMs to write your application. It makes it really hard to get a read on your individual reasoning and communication skills, and basically does the opposite of making you stand out.
Other notes
If you’re not interested in applying but know someone who might be a great fit, you can submit referrals here. We offer a $5,000 referral bonus if we hire someone you were the first to refer.
For capacity and fairness reasons, we’re not able to accommodate inbound requests for discovery calls, but if you have specific questions about the role, feel free to email me at miriam.hinthorn@coefficientgiving.org and I’ll get back to you as quickly as I can.
