When talking about Sam Bankman-Fried I read a bunch of times the claim that EA failed because it didn’t put sufficient effort into checking his background. It might be worthwhile to fund a new organization, ideally as independent as possible from other orgs whose sole reason for existance is to look into the powerful people in EA and criticize them when warrented.
While it might be great if CEA would be able to fill that role, they happen to be an org that in the past didn’t honor a confidentiality promise when people came to them with critizism of powerful people in EA and don’t think this was enough of a problem to list it on their mistakes page.
Okay, it’s good to see that it’s finally there as it wasn’t the last time I publically complained about it. At the time it seemed like apologizing deep in a comment thread was the only action that CEA felt warrented.
