This post introduced the concept of Task Y, which I have found very helpful framing in thinking about ways to engage community members at scale, which to me is a very important question for movement sustainability.
I think itโs unlikely the Task Y concept would have been popularized in EA community building without this post.
I think the motivation to find Task Y is asking the question in the correct direction, even though I think the Task Y framing is not useful beyond a point. But it seems like an important first step.
My current thinking on Task Y is that there is no true Task Y for the EA movement because the needs of the movement are too varied and diverse. Rather it seems that within more narrow domains (e.g. causes, careers, etc.) there may be more scalable things that could be done.
