I’m currently seeking 2-3 new coaching clients and I’d ideally like to work with early-career EAs.
Some of you may recognize my name as a co-founder of Rethink Charity, Students for High-Impact Charity (SHIC) or RC Forward (Canada’s EA regranting project). What you may not know is that a couple of years ago I experienced a severe burnout, and after ~4 months of medical leave, I decided not to return to Rethink in a day-to-day capacity (though I remain on the Board). After feeling like I had recovered, I took a job last year as Director of Strategy at the amazing Family Empowerment Media. But it proved to be too much too soon, and after a couple of months I fell back into a familiar emotional state.
I decided to step away from the EA space, not because I stopped caring deeply for the ideas and people in it, but because it can be an emotionally unforgiving place to spend most of your time; from the deemphasized but still active old-school mindset of “I shouldn’t spend money/time on [things that bring me happiness], because that equals X fewer bednets being distributed”, to the imposter syndrome that inevitably arises by spending half your life around intimidatingly intelligent academics.
I’ve recently begun a remote coaching practice with a primary goal of “helping people help people”. While I may no longer be engaged with direct EA work, I think I have a lot to offer those who are. I don’t exclusively work with EAs, but so far it’s a group with whom I feel the largest experiential overlap.
My focus is not limited to professional difficulties. Rather, my approach is holistic, focusing on present challenges and/or neglected areas of potential growth, and building sustainable and enjoyable routines. I’ve also seen successes working with those struggling with:
Feeling like a black sheep, particularly (not exclusively) related to being LGBTQ+
Sex and relationships
Feeling in stasis in one or more areas of their life
Simply needing an accountabili-buddy or a cheerleader to keep them moving
While I can’t offer my services for free, I’m committed to making them accessible. Normally I offer an introductory five sessions for US$375, but there is wiggle room for EAs.
If you’d be keen to have a discovery call to learn more and ask questions, please fill out this form or send me a DM and I’ll get in touch to schedule a time.
