Why think the aliens don’t already know exactly what’s going on?
Two reasons: (1) our situation isn’t yet played out and nearby aliens don’t know how reckless we are going to be with other life in the universe, and (2) They might be far away and not too advanced.
Presumably they all passed the Singularity thousands to millions of years ago.
Perhaps they calculated that creating AI is too absurdly dangerous for anyone to do so they stopped pre-singularity and figured everyone does as well.
Out of hundreds, thousands, or millions of civilizations that have existed for thousands or millions of years? All of them, until just now?
