I’ve purposely built my engagement with EA in line with the principles you wrote:
Social—have non-EA friends. Ideally have some be local. Talk about other stuff with them, mostly.
Financial—do not rely on EA funding sources for income that you couldn’t do without. Don’t apply for EA jobs.
Emotional—do not have a unidimensional sense of self-worth that boils down to “how am I scoring on a vague, amorphous impact scale as envisioned in EA terms
In this way I think I’m fairly permanently ‘out’ of EA. But I think I get the best of both worlds like this. I have a foot in enough to make impact and to be generally considered an EA, but if I was unceremoniously booted out of EA tomorrow it wouldn’t be catastrophic. Or even significantly affect my life that much.
