We use tools like Metacognition, Design Thinking, and more, to support clear intention for aligned and effective outcomes.

Our approach is practical and grounded. We share ideas on environmental principles, sustainable, and protective integration in design and planning.

My educational and professional background is as diverse as my interests. Nine years ago, I graduated from a Swiss institution, specializing in Business Management in Tourism and Hospitality.

After moving to Vancouver in 2019, I’ve continued my studies in Second Language Acquisition and Social Science (mainly focusing on Adoption Trauma, Environmental and Cultural Studies)

In 2021, my work experience expanded in a Non-Profit Social Service Organisation.

In 2023, I joined EA.

And in 2024, I went back to Switzerland to take a break from entrepreneurship (after starting my first Business in 2021). To spend time with my family and friends as well as focusing on personal development.

By “Foundations of Protection” I mean the essential inner and outer skills that allow us to make conscious, value-driven decisions that truly do good in the world. Within the Integration & Protection Program, this begins with metacognition, alignment with natural rhythms, and awareness of human needs, skills that strengthen clarity, resilience, and ethical reflection.
On the outer level, protection means cultivating safe communities, environments, and relationships, both within EA and beyond. This ensures that people can contribute meaningfully while feeling supported, connected, and grounded.
I believe that when building or expanding movements like Effective Altruism, it’s vital to invest in these foundations first. With strong roots in inner alignment and outer protection, everything else naturally unfolds, without losing sight of ethics, or overlooking the long-term cause and effect of our actions on future generations.

Hi everyone, I’m Maria Amelia! I became interested in Effective Altruism because I’ve always been drawn to using both reason and compassion to make a meaningful impact in the world.
I’m particularly focused on causes related to human development, education, and holistic well-being. And I enjoy exploring how personal growth and inner skills can enhance the effectiveness of our actions.

on: What We Owe The Future: A review and summary of what I learned
I wonder how long-termism plays a role for people who have been displaced. If the climate crisis, wars, and poverty continue, how do we secure a safe and healthy future for those people?
Yes, we can positively influence the long-term future. But how do we connect some of the issues and come up with a plan that helps future communities that are affected by our current crisis?
We’ll be seeing a lot more people migrate and will have to offer solutions. Because with migration, comes new problems.
What are your thoughts?

Hi everyone,
I have been following 80′000 for a year now but never really went into the deep dive into this community. I’m glad I did now since there is so much to learn. I’m a life-long learner and my new focus is on gaining more knowledge on effective altruism, and social innovation, as well as how to improve and protect the future for more generations to come.
I’m a Social Science Researcher in Displacement and I’m an expert in creating communities of belonging, aligned identity, and free of apathy. I also work with a non-profit where we offer career coaching/counseling programs.
I’m looking to connect with individuals or organizations who share our values. There are a few small projects we are working on. The main focus is on displaced individuals dealing with trauma, anxiety about the future, poverty wounds, apathy, identity crisis and not feeling they belong.
What do you think the future for displaced people looks like?
