Hey,

I chose a pseudonym (-dunce scout), as I’m starting a blog with same name. There isn’t a popular blog (or one that I know of), that talks about simple/big ideas like lesswrong or SSC or EA forum -around here. (I’m based in Kerala; I’ll write mostly in ENG, maybe both ENG/MAL for region-relevant posts? Then again, typing MAL is hard)

The blog will be a guide/map to these sites. Occasionally, I’ll digest the more large/complex posts -in an original way?; maybe write/think on simple things and show a new way to think through.

I somehow stumbled upon lesswrong, and added it to bookmarks. (This maybe through stumbleupon when it was free and available on the chrome web store; I think I was in 5th/6th grade when that happened) Never read it though. When covid/online classes happened, I got time. I started with Rationality A-Z since the posts had catchy headings. Soon realised that most posts are going over my head. Then, after a week or so I started with Codex and really enjoyed reading it. (except for the much more than you need to know series) I did read some of Rationality A-Z, but not to completion. Enjoyed hpmor, replacing guilt by Nate Soares, and few other posts on lesswrong by users like lukeprog. I find that most posts on lesswrong involve Comp.Sci or Mathematics to a level that I can’t follow. (I’m in medschool rn) The simpler posts are fun to read. The SSC subreddit introduced me to thelastpsychiatrist, I fell in love immediately -the pieces are usually small, if not- simple and fun. (sometimes the psychoanalysis is a bit loose/shaky; but it’s still good to read). During this time, I also found Paul Graham’s blog; he does the best kind of writing.

So, EA? After reading Codex for a while, I tried the SSC site. Was greeted by long/complex posts and kinda didn’t read on. Sometime later, I browsed the site again and found the EA community. (8000hours, EA-org) Or, I may have also ran into it on lesswrong at around the same time. (What made me come back to SSC site, is this)

I did it!

Well not really. The specific me doesn’t matter. It’s the idea.

Yes, that’s a gladiator reference. Why? The universe willed it to be so. It called the idea of utopia by the name Rome. And we worked really hard for it. Yes we did make loads of mistakes. That’s only natural. Entropy increases in an isolated system. We found the answer to every question we needed to survive and beyond. We just didn’t realise.

Now its, No Time for Caution.

Full thrusters. But different. We will for the first time harness the power of chaos to drive our chariot forward.

And last for all eternity.

I have some specific questions about blog-writing that I need some help with. (using other copyrighted art as meme, quoting books, penning-down ideas) I’ll scour the site some more; and if I don’t see anything about it, maybe I’ll post?
