According to Wikipedia, Rathbone served in Parliament for nearly 30 years and did a lot for the nursing reform movement. I don’t know of any sources for how he might have influenced other wealthy philanthropists at the time. (He was a contemporary of Carnegie and Rockefeller, but I don’t know of any evidence that he influenced their giving.)
