We’re excited to announce the launch of a new Discord server dedicated to discussing AI welfare. AI welfare refers to the potential for AI systems to be moral patients – because they’re phenomenologically conscious, robustly agentic, or otherwise morally significant – and thus have the capacity to be benefited or harmed.[1] We think there’s a gap in spaces for casual discussion about AI welfare, so we’re creating this community to facilitate idea sharing among folks who are interested in it.
Some things we’re interested in:
Identifying important questions and low-hanging fruit
Designing experiments to understand AI preferences and experiences
Philosophical frameworks underpinning AI moral status
If you want to work on these questions, are interested in digital minds, or just want to be at the forefront of a hot new EA cause area, come join us!
