I wonder if it might be possible to get volunteers to help find some of opportunities to save money, in the genre of
putting students up in cheaper hotels, booking flights further in advance, or selecting cheaper flights where inconvenience is minimal (rather than treating money as no object).
I am not confident that this is true, because coordinating with volunteers is a lot of work and coordination-time is limited, but I could imagine a world where you could be like โhere is my BATNA for booking flights for these speakers, if someone can improve upon this in the next 12 hours, I will donate the difference in money to the charity of their choiceโ.
I agree that this will be a good thing for a meta ops org to do, and Iโd be excited to see a meta ops org! I suspect there might be even more valuable things that a meta ops org can do however (e.g. handle the legal and financial aspects of many orgs).

You could outsource this to someone who saves more per hour worked would save more than the total cost of their time.
Easier said than done!
True! But I think a good meta ops org could provide this kind of service for the community
