Interesting new metric. It’s very attractive at first, but this line of reasoning omits the numerous neolithic henges, which solved the alignment problem pretty definitively.
Are you neglecting some of humanity’s most important hinginess due to a simple difference in spelling? Clearly this is a case of scale insensitivity. We should extend the current hingey period to include the past 5,000 years.

Strong upvote. This post caused me to deprioritize longtermism and shift my focus to presently alive beings.
Sometimes I can understand arch-primitivists’ argument for returning to the period of open doors supported by nothing but classic material physics and gravity, but every time I look at a modern door hinge I am reminded that it is one of the few things that decently rhymes with orange.
