Interesting one! I would guess if this option was real and everyone voted, there would be >70% blue button pushers. It would seem more fair, right and good to most people. 90% of the world wouldn’t think “rationally” or consider game theory.
I don’t really agree with this though “The world of reds is a world of agency and self-sufficiency, filled with people justly confident that their society neither needs nor demands their sacrifice, because everyone can and does look out for themselves.” I think choosing red is selfish more than self-sufficient, when there’s another option which with just a little co-ordination just dominates… This decision doesn’t demand sacrifice, only communication and a bit of working together.
Also most cultures are far more communally minded than our western bubble
As Ande T. points out, choosing red in a world where you know that most people choose red is not really selfish. Even altruists are not called upon by their values to die for no gain. (I don’t claim that’s the world we live in, of course.)
