In particular, I wonder what “a lot” is — my impression is that these views are generally unpopular, and that every time I’ve seen them discussed here, many more people are on your “side” (in the general sense, if not all the particulars) than on the NU “side”.
I agree with both points and have adjusted them accordingly. The reason I originally said that those views have gained a lot of popularity with ea’s is that, in my experience, negative utilitarians are primarily effective altruists. However, it’s still a very minority view among effective altruists.
