Introducing: The High-Impact Alphabet Incubator

High Impact Professionals (HIP) and High Impact Athletes (HIA) are excited to announce a bold new initiative from the community: the High-Impact Alphabet Incubator.

Our vision is simple but ambitious: by 2027, we aim to have one high-impact branded charity for every letter of the English alphabet, covering the full spectrum of high-impact domains.

Currently, there are the following (great, if you ask us!) programs:

  1. HIA: High Impact Athletes – Leveraging elite athletes’ influence to fund and advocate for neglected, high-value causes.

  2. HIP: High Impact Professionals – Helping connect ambitious professionals with tools and networks to transform their careers into a force for good.

Our goal is to expand this model to 24 more programs, creating a fully diversified A-to-Z portfolio of high-impact charities by 2027.

How We’re Thinking About New Letters

Each new program will follow the same principles:

  • Neglected but high-impact: Focus on cause areas that are underfunded relative to their potential positive impact.

  • Scalable interventions: Prioritize initiatives where small investments in time, money, or attention can produce outsized benefits.

  • Community-driven: Each program will have its own network of volunteers, researchers, and high-impact members coordinating efforts.

Some candidate letters and programs currently under consideration include:

  • HIA: High Impact AthletesAlready operational. Doing great.

  • HIB: High Impact Biologists Doing biosecurity research they can’t publish

  • HIC: High Impact Chefs Feeding the world, one cost-effective meal at a time

  • HID: High Impact Diplomats Preventing great power conflict one awkward dinner at a time

  • HIE: High Impact Existentialists Questioning whether impact is real

  • HIF: High Impact Fathers Paternal welfare is suspiciously neglected

  • HIG: High Impact Gamers Leveraging Twitch audiences for neglected causes; Note: HIA to acquire HIG ahead of e-sports 2032 Olympic inclusion!

  • HIH: High Impact Huel No explanation needed

  • HII: High Impact Introverts Doing good quietly from their apartments

  • HIJ: High Impact Journalists Writing long-form cause prioritisation pieces that nobody reads

  • HIK: High Impact Knitters Community building and stress reduction for burned-out EAs

  • HIL: High Impact Lurkers For all those reading every slack post and never responding… not even with an emoji

  • HIM: High Impact Medicine Hi-Med is so yesterday—welcome to the club!

  • HIN: High Impact Nudgers Behavioural science for good

  • HIO: High Impact Optimisers Applying expected value to everything, including lunch

  • HIP: High Impact ProfessionalsSorted, don’t worry!

  • HIQ*

  • HIR: High Impact Ruminators Thinking hard without any concrete actions taken. Ever.

  • HIS: High Impact Shrimp Having dominated the welfare discourse for long enough, shrimp are now funding research into the next species

  • HIT: High Impact Technocrats Governance solutions for everything

  • HIU: High Impact Undergrads The pipeline, for better or worse

  • HIV: [Redacted pending legal review]

  • HIW: High Impact Worriers Like Neurotics, but with more tail-risk scenarios

  • HIX*

  • HIY*

  • HIZ: High Impact Zebras Charismatic megafauna welfare, finally

Measuring Success

As with all HIP initiatives, impact measurement is core. We’re developing a scoring system that estimates:

  • Expected lives saved or improved per program

  • Neglectedness-adjusted impact potential

  • “Cool” factor

Early modeling by an intern over a long weekend suggests that, once the alphabet is complete, the High-Impact Alphabet portfolio will cover more cause areas with measurable impact than any single existing EA program.

Call for Community Input

We invite the EA Forum community to:

  1. Suggest additional charity ideas that could benefit from a high-impact program*.

  2. Apply to our incubator program to help launch and manage new programs.

  3. Provide feedback on our impact metrics and reporting framework.

By working together, we hope to achieve A-to-Z coverage of high-impact initiatives, making an alphabetically effective engine for EA-aligned action.

“If you can’t measure the impact, make a new letter for it.”

Stay tuned for updates on our next launches. We’ll be raising seed funding for HIB, HIC, and HID in the coming months, starting the countdown toward a complete alphabet of high-impact charities!

(And happy April 1st)

* Note if you’re interested in founding HIQ, HIX, or HIY, please reach out. These letters appear unusually neglected in our current models.
