Many countries require visas that are hard to obtain for interns from African nations, especially for unpaid internships most of us cannot afford travel, housing, or living expenses abroad without support.

Like Annika said the great thing is that you might well have super high impact options close to home that could be worth exploring! Not sure where you are from but it could be worth looking at it there are high impact EA orgs operating in your country and reaching out to them.
Great point, thank you for adding this. I still think the advice is somewhat relevant if people can find impactful non-profits working in their home countries, but I was definitely writing this from the privileged perspective of someone who can easily access university funding.
