I guess ideally we have both: PauseAI and those simply pushing for strict regulations. PauseAI, being at the extreme, functions as an outrider that can push the Overton Window.
James—just to recalibrate—I don’t see ‘Pause AI’ as the extreme. Given the very high level of public concern about AI risk, plenty of normal people would see ‘Stop AI by any means necessary’ as quite reasonable, whereas some might view it as slightly too extreme. But an indefinite pause seems like a very moderate, centrist position, all things considered.

Oh I agree. But in this post I think PauseAI was couched as being at the extreme end?
