Hi Stella, as far as I know, there’s no restriction on how long you’ve been in the UK (or even applying from abroad).
However you’ll want to be careful of two things:
You’ll need the right to work in the UK. The Civil Service does not sponsor work visas.
Living in another country can make it more difficult to get security clearance (for example, you might need to get a local police check and to get it translated).
Hi @khorton, for someone therefore who has been given a provisional offer on an SEO role whilst on Tier 4 visa, how do you reckon the dynamics of that playing out since the civil service does not sponsor work visas. The candidate currently has a limited right to work hours on the tier 4. I’m interested in hearing your insight. I’m a huge fan personally. Thanks
Hi Phil, if they’ve been offered a part-time position that they can do alongside studying in such a way that it matches their visa conditions, I don’t see a problem. If they’ve been offered a full-time position, I doubt it would be possible, but I’m not a lawyer so don’t know for sure and would encourage the candidate to check the guidance for themselves!
Thank you for this post.
My question is, as a common wealth citizen, how long must I be in the UK before I can apply for a role in Civil Service?
Also, Can one who is residents outside the UK also apply from outside the UK?
