What do you think the ideal ratio in terms of resource allocation between thinking/research and doing/action in EA would be? (I recognize those categories are ill-defined, and some activities won’t comfortably fall into either bucket. But they seem discrete enough to make a question about balancing different kinds of work worthwhile.)
I think it varies a lot by cause area but I think you would be unsurprised to hear me recommend more marginal thinking/research. I think we’re still pretty far from understanding how to best allocate a doing/action portfolio and there’d still be sizable returns from thinking more.
