Exploring AI Policy & the Future of Work — Seeking Guidance for PhD Pathways (No UK/EU/US Passport, No Master’s)

Link post

Hi everyone,

I’m currently exploring the intersection of AI policymaking and the future of labour and employment, with a particular focus on how we might build resilient, equitable systems in the face of rapid technological change. My background is in HRTech entrepreneurship, and my mission is centered on expanding access to dignified work — especially for globally mobile and underrepresented talent.

As an international researcher without UK/EU/US citizenship, and someone who has not completed a Master’s, I’m navigating limited but crucial pathways to advance this work. I’m currently researching my PhD topic independently and looking to build a strong foundation for a future academic and policy career — ideally one that allows me to contribute to real-world policy development while pursuing a doctorate.

The UK has emerged as a promising relocation option, especially as the U.S. becomes increasingly unsafe and uncertain for many global researchers and entrepreneurs. I’m eager to find environments where my research interests can thrive, and where my lived experience as an international, nontraditional candidate is seen as an asset rather than a barrier.

My focus areas include:

  • Algorithmic hiring and worker classification

  • Equitable access to labour markets for migrant and remote workers

  • Policy mechanisms that ensure inclusive participation in an AI-shaped economy

Ultimately, I aim to help shape forward-looking labour policies that center both dignity and opportunity in the future of work.

If you know of:

  • UK-based PhD fellowships or doctoral opportunities that do not require a Master’s

  • Research groups or academic departments working on AI, labour markets, or global equity

  • Ways to contribute to policy development during doctoral study

  • Visa-compatible pathways for international researchers in the UK

—I’d be truly grateful for your insights, introductions, or recommendations.

Happy to connect with others thinking about similar challenges.

Warmly,
C.
